A Sigh, Or A Smile?

If I should sigh, and the day before me hear it,
What magic would descend upon it?
No light, no blithesome gayety, merely
The sodden declaration of my soul,
Complaining in its mute appeal.
But should I laugh, lo! ’tis as though
My soul flung its arms-free!
And dashed upon the heated brow of day
A spray of cooling drops.
Then let me laugh!
Why should Law and Reason say:
“Weep at Sorrow.”-I say laugh!
